Hara’s inaugural exhibition was Güneş Terkol’s solo show Soundscapes.
For her solo exhibition at Hara, Terkol created a series of site-specific installations using six-metre-long tulle drapes. In creating these translucent pieces, which he hand-dyed, Terkol was inspired by the different faces of femininity and the pastoral characters that inhabit her imaginative world. Terkol’s works layer dreams, memories, and perceptions, while exploring the narrative layers woven through myths and the stories of others.
In her practice, Güneş Terkol often works with cotton-based permeable tulle, typically used as greenhouse covering or shade cloth. She first boils the fabrics with natural materials and leaves them under the sun for varying lengths of time to produce different colours. For Terkol, this material is like a second skin. It is fragile, yet resilient enough to carry stories, ever-shifting and changing as it interacts with space and light.
