Hara Learning Programme (Ages 9–12)
What Do Others See? – Monster Masks
What can a face hide, and what can it reveal? Could a monster have an extra eye or an imaginary horn?
In What Do Others See? – Monster Masks, children explore different forms of bodies and faces, taking inspiration from the works of Hilal Polat and Lara Ögel in the exhibition The Promises of Monsters. Using a variety of materials, including foam, fabric, felt, tulle, string and paper, they design their own monster masks and invent imaginary characters that reflect aspects of themselves. Through colour, shape and texture, they experiment with making certain features visible while concealing others, discovering new ways to express themselves. By the end of the workshop, each child creates a mask that reflects something of who they are while transforming them into an unconventional character.
